Wilderness Wednesday
Farms and parks
- In class, we have discussed that farms were created to protect animals so humans can use them for food.
 - Discussion questions: What about parks? Why do we need parks like Sasquatch Provincial Park?
 - possible answers: protecting the variety of plants and animals that live in the area, special features found in the area (hot springs), the natural heritage, special recreation areas.
 - Create your own "Mini-Park" for someone the size of your thumb.
 - You can use found materials, or you can use toothpicks, popsicle sticks or string. We also used toy people, animals and cars to help us design.
 - Find the proper location for your mini-park and create a boundary. How much room will your animals need?
 - Design your park:
 - think about how you are going to protect your park, the animals who live there, as well as the plants?
 - How will humans use your park? Can they drive through or will they need to walk?
 - What features to you need to help the wildlife in your park, for example: do the animals have shelter, access to water, places to eat?
 - Does your park need a fence? A parking lot for cars? Is there a place for garbage? Washrooms?
 - Be sure to create a sign that tells us the name of your mini-park.
 - Take a picture and send to Mr. Neufeld.
